The Senate has postponed its two-day National Security Summit earlier scheduled for Monday, October 12, and Tuesday, October 13, 2026, following the tragic Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash in Igbokoda, headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. The decision was taken in honour of the officers and crew members who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.
The NAF ATR-42 aircraft crashed on Monday, resulting in the deaths of 25 officers and crew members on board. The incident has sparked widespread grief and renewed concerns over the safety and welfare of personnel serving the nation in critical security operations.
Confirming the postponement, Senate Leader and Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on the National Security Summit, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, said the decision was taken as a mark of respect for the fallen officers. The Senate expressed condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims, while acknowledging their service and sacrifice to Nigeria.
