Hon. Peter Aniekwe has been entrusted with a strategic legislative responsibility following his appointment to chair a specialized sub-committee investigating petitions concerning the issuance, operation, and calls for the cancellation of gas distribution licences granted to NIPCO Plc. The appointment was announced during a technical review briefing at Downstream Week 2026, hosted by the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).
The investigation covers key locations, including Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, and Osun states, as well as the Lagos and Lekki Free Trade Zones. The panel, under Aniekwe’s leadership, is expected to conduct preliminary investigations into the petitions, focusing on regulatory compliance, transparency, and accountability within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
The assignment underscores the important role of legislative oversight in safeguarding the integrity of the nation’s energy sector. The committee has also emphasized that all parties involved will be given a fair hearing as the House examines the issues and works towards ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
