According to a report by Leadership, on Thursday May 7, 2026, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has pushed back strongly against recent comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his media appearance as unnecessary and driven by frustration over internal party disputes.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the faction said Wike’s remarks were full of personal attacks and lacked substance, it claimed his comments reflected political anger rather than constructive engagement, and urged the public to disregard them.
The group accused the minister of using public platforms to criticise and insult well-known Nigerians, it said his conduct had become damaging and embarrassing, arguing that it no longer contributed positively to national or party discussions, it further stated that Wike’s political journey had benefited from opportunities he was now misusing.
Reacting to claims about leadership roles within the PDP, the faction firmly dismissed the idea that Wike could become a “National Leader” of the party, it explained that such a position is not provided for in the PDP constitution and therefore cannot be occupied by anyone.
“We sympathise with Wike for the pain associated with the realisation that he will not and can never be the National Leader of our party, as no such office exists in our constitution,” the statement added.
