ADC Leads Thunderous Save Democracy Protest
Share this:

The leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside top opposition figures, stormed the streets in a powerful “Save Democracy” protest, following the controversial decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the party.

The move, which saw the interim National Chairman and his team removed from official recognition, has sparked widespread outrage, with many describing it as a direct threat to Nigeria’s democratic structure and an attempt to silence opposition voices.

At the forefront of the protest were prominent political heavyweights including Mr. Peter Obi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Senate President, Senator David Mark, who currently serves as the interim National Chairman of the ADC.

They were joined by other notable figures such as former Kogi West Senator, Senator Dino Melaye, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and media personality Dele Momodu, all of whom are key actors in the emerging ADC coalition.

Addressing the crowd, the leaders strongly condemned INEC’s action, insisting that the alleged deselection of the David Mark-led leadership undermines due process and threatens the credibility of democratic institutions.

They called on Nigerians to rise in defense of democracy, warning that any attempt to weaken opposition platforms could plunge the nation into a one-party system.

The protest was peacefully but sent a powerful message across the country, that Nigerians, united across political lines, will continue to demand accountability, fairness, and the protection of their democratic rights.
