Akwaeze decries INEC Action Against ADC, Proposes Way Forward
Share this:

The propelling force behind the ALOT Foundation, Hon. Ogechukwu-Laz Akwaeze, has strongly condemned the recent action by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in removing the names of the acting National chairman and other executives of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from its official list, describing it as a direct threat to Nigeria’s democracy. He warned that such a move raises serious concerns about the neutrality and independence of the electoral body and risks eroding public confidence in the nation’s democratic institutions.

He further noted that the development reflects a troubling pattern of interference in opposition affairs, emphasizing that democracy can only thrive where fairness, justice, and a level playing field are guaranteed for all political actors.

According to him, weakening opposition parties not only undermines healthy political competition but also diminishes accountability, which is fundamental to good governance.

As a way forward, Akwaeze called on INEC to immediately review and reverse the decision in line with constitutional provisions and due process. He urged the commission to strengthen transparency, engage critical stakeholders, and uphold its independence both in action and perception.
