The information revealed to Lazeera news indicates that a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt has issued an order preventing the Chief Judge of Rivers State from accepting an impeachment notice directed at Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu. This development follows a move by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who had formally requested the Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the governor and his deputy.

The court order puts the impeachment process on hold, pending further legal proceedings. The Rivers State House of Assembly had alleged that individuals linked to the state’s executive were attempting to secure a court order to stop the legislature from carrying out its constitutional duties.

The allegations against Governor Fubara include extra-budgetary spending, withholding funds for the Assembly Service Commission, demolition of the Assembly complex, and disregard for Supreme Court judgments on legislative autonomy.
