Former John Mikel Obi, ex-captain of the Super Eagles, has publicly condemned the corruption he says is entrenched in Nigerian football, declaring that it must be completely eradicated for the game to progress.
Speaking on his podcast, he referenced a reported US$1.2 million grant from FIFA to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for stadium projects, questioning how the funds were used and calling for full accountability.
Mikel also urged that, despite the urgent need for reform, the focus should now be on rebuilding team morale for the upcoming World Cup playoff matches.
He emphasized that players must feel supported and motivated by the football authorities, stressing welfare and proper management as key to on-field success.
