The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has revealed that the Sokoto-Kebbi axis of the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway project will require an estimated N3 trillion for completion. Umahi made this disclosure during an inspection visit to the 40-kilometer section 1A of the ongoing superhighway project in Sokoto State.

According to Umahi, the project is part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving road network and train service connectivity across the six geopolitical zones to boost socio-economic development. He emphasized that the Northwest region has not been neglected in the execution of projects, highlighting that Kebbi State has been allocated N2 trillion, while Sokoto State has N1 trillion for the superhighway project.

Umahi explained that the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway project, spanning 1,068km, is a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing people’s lives and rejuvenating socio-economic activities nationwide. He noted that the project, which was a 48-year dream of late President Shehu Shagari, is expected to be completed within five years and will be a success.

The minister commended Hightech Construction Company Ltd., the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Security Services, and other security agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the project. He also urged community members to continue supporting the project handlers.

Umahi’s remarks were corroborated by the Minister of State for Works, Mr. Bello Goronyo, who described the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway as a “game changer” that will attract more economic investments and facilitate growth in the region. The Director of Bridges and Design in the Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Musa Sa’idu, stated that the project is being executed according to specifications, while the contracting firm, Hightech Construction Company Ltd., assured that they are working diligently to complete the project.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Northwest, Alhaji Abdullahi Tanko-Yakasai, expressed optimism that the project will uplift social development in the region, demonstrating President Tinubu’s commitment to the Northwest.
