Goodluck Jonathan Criticizes ‘Go to Court’ Culture
Share this:

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed concern over what he described as the growing culture of public institutions dismissing criticism by simply telling aggrieved citizens to seek redress in court.

Speaking at a recent public event, Jonathan lamented what he sees as a decline in accountability within some government institutions, arguing that such responses often undermine public confidence in the justice system.

Drawing from a popular East African saying, the former President remarked that when a thief tells someone to go to court, it may suggest confidence that the outcome has already been secured in their favor.

According to him, the saying reflects widespread concerns about fairness and integrity in institutions that are expected to uphold justice and protect the rights of citizens.
Jonathan’s comments have since generated reactions among Nigerians, with many interpreting the statement as a call for stronger institutions and greater transparency in governance. His remarks add to ongoing discussions about judicial independence, accountability, and the need to restore public trust in key democratic institutions across the country.
