Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, Dr. George Moghalu, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remains one of the strongest contenders in Nigeria’s political landscape due to his substantial support base in Northern Nigeria.
According to Moghalu, the North continues to command a significant share of the country’s voting population, making the region a critical factor in determining the outcome of any presidential election.
Moghalu explained that the current political equation appears to favor Atiku, particularly because he is widely viewed as the most viable presidential aspirant from the North. He noted that this position gives Atiku a strategic advantage in consolidating support across the region, which could translate into a formidable electoral force during the next presidential contest.
He further emphasized that regional and demographic considerations remain influential in Nigeria’s electoral process. While acknowledging that elections are determined by several factors, Moghalu maintained that Atiku’s ability to draw massive votes from the North places him in a favorable position compared to many other potential contenders, making him a major figure to watch in the race for the presidency.
