Obi’s ₦10m Boost for Imo Nursing College
Share this:

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to empowering Nigerian youth, donating ₦10 million to the Mother of Mercy College of Nursing Sciences in Imo State.

During a visit to the institution, Obi fulfilled a promise made when he capped the college’s pioneer nursing students, supporting the school’s ongoing development. He reminded students of the global importance of their profession, citing a projected shortage of healthcare workers by 2030.

“Your training places you among the most relevant professionals of the future,” Obi said, urging students to excel globally while remaining connected to Nigeria.

Obi emphasized that his support stems from a desire to see young Nigerians succeed, adding that money has value only when it uplifts those in need. “These students are important, their future is bright, and they will become great contributors to society,” he said.

The college has achieved notable milestones, including full accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and launching the Basic Nursing Programme. Obi commended the DMMM Congregation for its investment in education and healthcare, stressing that faith-based institutions strengthen social and moral foundations.

“A new Nigeria is possible,” Obi said, urging students to embrace discipline, compassion, and integrity, as nurses are the backbone of every functional healthcare system.
