Jigawa Approves N1.94bn For SSCE Fees, Foreign Scholarship

Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the release of N1,947,873,457.90K for the payment of Senior Secondary School examination fees and the annual scholarship for 193 medical students studying in Cyprus.

The state commissioner for information, Youth Sport and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa Ahmad, revealed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.

He explained that the sum of Eight Hundred and Ninety-One Million, Six Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira (₦891,660,000.00) only was approved for the payment of tuition fees and other approved academic and welfare expenses of students studying Medical and Applied Medical Sciences at Near East University, Cyprus, for the 2026/2027 Academic year.

The commissioner noted that the approval was in line with the administration of His Excellency, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, in its commitment to human resource development and educational excellence.

According to him, the approval covers the payment of Tuition Fees, Administrative fees, value-added tax (VAT), accommodation, living allowances, resident permits, and Health Insurance for the affected students, who are returning students of the institution.

He noted that the Council expressed its joy over the success recorded by the 99th. student out of the 193. who are now undergoing an internship after having completed the mandatory 500-level courses and been cleared by the university, the remaining 55 students will comple193me courses before commencing their internship.

Similarly, the council commends one of the students (Abu-Ubaida Abubakar), who has scored the highest CGPA in the department of Civil Engineering since the establishment of the University, according to the 193rd.

The Executive Council also considers the continued sponsorship of these students an important investment in human capital development, particularly in medical and applied medical sciences, which are critical to strengthening the healthcare sector and improving the availability of qualified medical professionals across the state.

However, the commissioner revealed that the University, according to the council, had approved the release of the sum of One Billion, Fifty-Six Million, Two Hundred and Thirteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Fifty Seven Naira, Fifty Kobo (₦1,056,213,457.50) only for the settlement of outstanding payment obligations relating to the 2026 National Examination Registration Charges for students across the state.

He said the approved funds will cover registration charges for a total of 40,210 students, comprising 32,663 for the National Examinations Council (NECO), 685 for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and 6,862 for the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).

The Council further reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality education and ensuring that financial constraints do not become a barrier to the academic progress of students in the State.
