Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, has questioned the credentials of Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, following his remarks on Minister of Works . Bwala’s reaction came after Obi, during an interview on a podcast hosted by media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo, suggested that Umahi should first qualify as a presidential candidate before inviting him to a public debate.
Responding in a post on his X handle, Bwala questioned how Obi himself became a presidential candidate, asking whether the former Anambra State governor had ever emerged through a presidential primary election. He argued that it was contradictory for Obi to question Umahi’s qualification while, in his view, failing to explain his own path to the presidential ticket.
Bwala further described Obi as a “miracle centre presidential candidate” and maintained that Umahi’s record as a former governor and current Minister of Works placed him in a strong position. His remarks add to the growing exchanges between government officials and opposition figures following Obi’s recent media appearances, where he has spoken on governance, security and the 2027 presidential election.
