Political analyst Obafemi George has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s infrastructure agenda, insisting that national development is driven by long-term investments in critical projects rather than political arguments. Speaking on Trust TV, George said countries that achieved remarkable economic growth did so by prioritizing infrastructure, citing China as a notable example.

According to George, China’s transformation into a global economic powerhouse was fueled by decades of deliberate investment in transportation networks and other strategic infrastructure. He noted that in 1979, China had no modern highway system, but today boasts thousands of kilometers of modern highways that have enhanced trade, connectivity, and industrial expansion. He argued that Tinubu’s ongoing road projects reflect a similar vision for Nigeria’s future.

George pointed to the Sokoto–Badagry and Lagos–Calabar highway corridors as major projects capable of stimulating economic growth, reducing transportation costs, and improving regional integration. While acknowledging that such initiatives often attract criticism during implementation, he maintained that their long-term benefits would outweigh present concerns, stressing that infrastructure—not politics—remains the foundation upon which prosperous nations are built.
