According to a statement on X on Thursday, May 28, 2026, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, at his residence in Abuja, in a move signaling continued efforts to build unity within the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku, who recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), described the meeting as one marked by warmth and camaraderie. He said the two leaders engaged in deep and honest conversations about the state of the nation.
The visit also doubled as a birthday felicitation for Amaechi, whose birthday was marked the previous day. Atiku light-heartedly teased his host about Arsenal’s recent success.
The meeting comes shortly after the ADC presidential primary, where Atiku defeated Amaechi and other contenders to clinch the party’s ticket. Atiku had earlier pledged to personally reach out to his rivals to foster unity and collaboration.
