Amaechi Calls for Performance-Based Voting
Share this:

During an interview on Channels Television, Rotimi Amaechi, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), called on Nigerians to assess presidential hopefuls based on their records in public office rather than rhetoric.

Amaechi argued that leadership choices should be grounded in measurable performance, pointing out that many of the leading figures in the race have previously held significant government positions at both state and federal levels.

He maintained that voters should critically examine what each candidate has achieved in office before making a decision.

He referenced several political figures, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that each has a track record that can be evaluated by the public.

Amaechi also highlighted his own tenure as governor of Rivers State and his time as Minister of Transportation as part of the criteria for comparison.

He stressed that such an approach would allow Nigerians to make informed decisions based on evidence rather than sentiment, urging a kind of “referendum” on the performance of all aspirants.

According to him, “There’s a difference between myself and president Buhari.

I was governor of Rivers State, can we do a referendum? All the candidates or aspirants who are running for presidency including president Bola Tinubu have served government. Do a referendum.

Go to Peter Obi, go to Anambra State and see what he has done. Go to vice president Atiku, he was vice president, let’s see what he’s done, let’s see what he’s done in custom. Let’s look at what Tinubu did in Lagos, let’s look at what Tinubu is doing in Nigeria now.

Turn to Rotimi Chibike Amaechi in Rivers State, see what I’ve done in Rivers State, look at what I’ve done in transportation and chose who will be the presidential candidate or chose who will be the president.
