Family Demands International Intervention Over Sokoto Transfer
Share this:

The family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), is sounding the alarm over his secret transfer to a correctional facility in Sokoto State, fearing for his life and health.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, speaking on behalf of the family, revealed that they only discovered the move after Kanu’s legal team visited the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja, where he was being held.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on Thursday, with Justice James Omotosho instructing that he should not be held in Abuja.

The family believes the transfer is a deliberate attempt to isolate Kanu and deny him access to specialized medical care from private physicians, citing concerns over his deteriorating health.

“They have secretly relocated Nnamdi Kanu to Sokoto prison with the intention to kill him by denying him access to his personal physicians,” Prince Emmanuel stated.

The family is calling on the international community, including the United Nations, African Union, United States, United Kingdom, and European Union, to intervene and hold the Nigerian government accountable for Kanu’s safety and well-being.

They placed direct responsibility on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government, warning that any harm to Kanu would trigger serious consequences.
