A vigilante member was killed by a colleague during a burial ceremony in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State. The incident occurred when the suspect, from Umunjanwoke, Orogwe community, allegedly opened fire with a pump-action gun, hitting Israel Ewuzie, also a vigilante member, from Ndegwu in the same council area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident caused panic among mourners, who fled the scene for safety. The reason behind the shooting is yet to be ascertained, and the matter has been reported to security authorities for investigation.
The deceased, known as “Araka Bullet,” was described as a committed and fearless vigilante member who played a key role in maintaining peace and security within the community. The suspect has been taken into custody, and the police have commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The incident has raised concerns over the use and handling of firearms by local security operatives in community assignments and social gatherings.
