Flood Alert: Oyo SEMA Warns of Impending Disaster
Share this:

The Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has alerted people living in flood-prone communities in the state to vacate the areas to avoid impending heavy rains and possible flooding

Mrs Ojuolape Busari, the agency’s administrative secretary, issued this in a statement in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Busari said that reports from the Oyo State Flood Early Warning System indicate that the areas to the east and northeast of Ibadan city centre are likely to experience heavy rainfall.

“This includes parts of Lagelu Local Government Area, Iyana-Offa, and other communities that share boundaries with Osun State,” she stated.

Busari also stated that information provided by the Oyo State Flood Early Warning System indicated that certain parts of the northern part of Ibadan city would experience heavy rainfall.

She said that some areas in Egbeda and Lagelu LGAs would experience heavy rainfall too.

The statement further said that moderate to heavy rains would be experienced in most parts of the Ibadan metropolis.

“Such areas include: IITA, Moniya, Ibadan Airport Ltd, University of Ibadan, Ojoo, Akobo, Basorun, Gate, Challenge, Ring Road, and many other densely populated areas within the city,” the administrative secretary said.

She assured that OYO-SEMA and other relevant government agencies, voluntary organisations, and civil society groups were prepared to intervene and alleviate the plight of persons and communities who might be affected.

Busari therefore urged people of the state to immediately commence preparations to avert dire consequences, saying, “discretion is the better part of valour”.
