Unification of the Opposition Parties Ahead of 2027 Presidential Election: Peter Obi In Closed-Door Meeting With Bala Mohammed
Share this:

On March 13, 2025, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, engaged in a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obi arrived in Bauchi early Thursday morning and was received at Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport by the deputy governor, Mohammed Auwal Jatau, around 9:45 a.m. The duo proceeded to the Presidential Lodge of the Government House for their private discussions.

The specifics of their conversation were not publicly disclosed; however, indications suggest that the meeting may pertain to political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Governor Mohammed, who previously contested the PDP’s presidential ticket in 2023 but lost to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, expressed readiness to collaborate with Obi to enhance governance in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of transcending political, religious, and tribal lines to address national challenges such as poverty and insecurity.

Peter Obi underscored the critical role of the northern region in Nigeria’s development and highlighted the necessity of substantial investments in key sectors to alleviate poverty and reduce criminality. He reiterated his commitment to partnerships driven by ideology and programs aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life, rather than mere pursuits of power.

This meeting is part of a broader trend of opposition figures engaging in strategic discussions, potentially signaling new alliances and preparations for the forthcoming electoral cycle. Both leaders’ willingness to collaborate reflects a shared vision of addressing pressing national issues through unified efforts.
