LCCI Pays Last Respect: Commemorates Buhari’s Economic Legacy
Share this:

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has extended its condolences to the family of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government, and all Nigerians.

Dr Chinyere Almona, Director General of LCCI, conveyed the message in a statement on Monday.

Almona noted that, as a statesman who served from 2015 to 2023, Buhari’s legacy was shaped by his strong anti-corruption stance and efforts to protect revenue.

She said he remained committed to establishing a self-reliant, resilient, and transparent economy throughout his tenure.

One of his landmark achievements was the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021, which broke two decades of legislative stagnation in the oil and gas sector.

Almona stated that the Act would benefit future generations and enhance governance in Nigeria’s extractive industries.

She also highlighted Buhari’s approval of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, modernising the country’s corporate regulation framework.

Almona noted that the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin PSC (Amendment) Act improved Nigeria’s share of deep-water oil production.

On infrastructure, she said the administration had completed major national projects, including the Second Niger Bridge and the Lagos-Ibadan and Itakpe-Warri rail lines.

She added that over 13,000 kilometres of roads were rehabilitated across the country during his time in office.

The Presidential Power Initiative, in collaboration with Siemens, aimed to enhance power transmission and distribution within Nigeria’s energy sector.

Almona also said Buhari’s government recorded growth in the digital economy through enabling reforms and investments.

She acknowledged his strong support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) during his presidency.

Almona said Buhari’s emphasis on local content, economic discipline, and resilience remains a key part of Nigeria’s development story.

She urged current and future leaders to build upon this legacy and promote inclusive growth, innovation, and enterprise development.
