Media aide to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has criticised Peter Obi over a statement attributed to him regarding Ghana’s $1.2 billion health budget and the country’s population. Obi was quoted as saying that dividing the budget by Ghana’s 31 million population amounted to $41 million per person.

Olayinka questioned the arithmetic, pointing out that dividing $1.2 billion by 31 million people could not result in $41 million per person. He subsequently mocked the calculation and used it to question the credibility of the statement attributed to the former presidential candidate.

The controversy has since sparked reactions online, with political supporters and commentators scrutinising the figures and the broader message behind the statement. The development comes as political debates increasingly intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
