The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has raised concerns over the activities of certain individuals and groups allegedly presenting themselves as affiliates or representatives of the respected Islamic body. In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, the league clarified that such persons and organizations are neither recognized nor authorized to speak or act on its behalf.
The apex body of Muslim scholars in South-West Nigeria reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to promoting Islamic teachings based on moderation, unity, peaceful coexistence, and moral guidance.
According to the league, any individual or organization spreading messages of hatred, extremism, intolerance, or division cannot be associated with its principles and values, which have guided its activities since its establishment in 1964.
The league therefore urged Muslims and members of the public to be vigilant and verify any claims of affiliation through its officially recognized leadership structures. It stressed that unauthorized groups should be disregarded, emphasizing that it remains dedicated to fostering unity and advancing the welfare of the Muslim community in Yorubaland and Nigeria at large.
