According to a report by Vanguard on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called on the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to consider former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as his potential running mate ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Eze, Amaechi is a formidable contender for the vice presidential nomination due to his long history in politics, high profile on a national level, and participation in previous electoral campaigns.
He claims that the party’s chances in the close presidential contest would be improved by the former minister and governor, due to his extensive background in the field.
He singled out Amaechi, saying that his organisational clout and campaign sway were crucial to the opposition’s 2015 triumph in Nigeria’s political change. According to Eze, this kind of political clout could be useful again in 2027 to influence the results of the elections.
He went on to say, “You need Amaechi at this stage,” before pointing out that Amaechi’s political history makes him impossible to ignore for any major presidential candidate. He said Amaechi could rally people from all over the country and all the major political parties.
Even if there have been other suggestions for potential running mates, the ADC chieftain maintained that Amaechi is the best option because of his background, connections, and organisational structure in Nigeria’s political sphere.
Dissatisfaction among party members and a loss of electoral unity may result from ignoring such a figure, he said.
On Wednesday, Eze and Atiku both issued statements in which Eze praised Atiku for his attempts to foster party unity in the wake of the presidential primaries. As an example of political maturity and inclusivity, he lauded the candidate’s outreach to erstwhile enemies.
Noting that Atiku’s recent reconciliation efforts demonstrate a dedication to constructing consensus and sustaining internal stability, he emphasised his engagements with important personalities who challenged the party’s ticket.
According to Eze, “you have shown a willingness to work as a team” by reaching out to rivals like Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
In Atiku’s case, Eze found that his prominence as the ADC presidential candidate is a result of his extensive participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.
With a solid and balanced campaign organization in place before 2027, he was optimistic that the candidate’s background in politics and administration could provide stability and direction.
