JUST IN: Kayode Fayemi Fires Warning to APC Politicians
Share this:

Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has said that Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has gradually moved away from the ideological foundation and guiding principles on which it was originally established.

According to a report published on Thursday, May 21, 2026, by Daily Post Nigeria, Fayemi made the remarks while speaking on the internal structure of the party and what he described as emerging concerns about its political direction and organizational coherence.

The former governor expressed his views during an interview on the podcast State Affairs, hosted by Edmund Obilo. The conversation focused on the state of internal democracy within the APC, the conduct of party primaries across the country, and the broader implications of its decision-making processes for unity and stability.

Fayemi noted that recent primary elections conducted by the party in different states have raised questions about how well-structured and cohesive the APC remains at various levels. He suggested that the manner in which some of these processes are being managed may reflect deeper structural weaknesses within the party.

A key point in his remarks centered on the increasing reliance on consensus arrangements in the selection of candidates. According to him, the growing difficulty in achieving genuine consensus indicates underlying organisational and political challenges that the party has yet to fully address.

He further argued that the ongoing struggles among stakeholders to arrive at unified positions during primaries suggest internal strain rather than coordinated decision-making. Fayemi also pointed to efforts by key political actors to secure agreement from influential power centers as part of the consensus-building process, including interactions linked to the presidency.

The former governor warned that the inability to naturally arrive at consensus among party members reflects a deeper problem within the APC’s political structure. He described the situation as one that signals tension and fragmentation rather than unity and cohesion.
