Tinubu Has Deepened North-South Division in Nigeria
Share this:

A recent interview shared by the official YouTube channel of Arise TV veteran journalist and ADC chieftain Dele Momodu raised concerns about the direction of Nigeria’s political conversation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the live broadcast, Momodu reflected on the increasing regional tone dominating national discourse, particularly in relation to the presidency and opposition strategies. He expressed worry that critical national issues are gradually being overshadowed by identity-based debates.

According to him, “Tinubu has succeeded in dividing Nigeria into north versus south in political discourse.” He argued that this shift in focus is shaping how political actors engage with voters and frame their campaigns.

Momodu noted that instead of concentrating on pressing challenges such as insecurity, economic stability, and infrastructure, much of the conversation has been reduced to regional considerations. He warned that this trend could deepen divisions and distract from governance priorities.

He further stressed that political leaders and stakeholders must be careful not to reinforce narratives that polarize the electorate. In his view, a united national outlook is essential for meaningful progress and democratic stability.

His remarks come amid ongoing debates involving key figures such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, as opposition groups continue to strategize for 2027. Momodu’s comments highlight growing concerns about the tone and direction of Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
