The Anambra State Police Command has commenced an urgent investigation following a viral video alleging that some police personnel attached to the Okpoko Divisional Headquarters in Onitsha extorted money from a victim using a PoS operator. The video circulating on social media claims the officers arrested the individual, seized his belongings, and allegedly compelled him to transfer money through a PoS agent in the Okpoko area.

Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations. He noted that the command views the incident as a serious matter capable of undermining public trust and professionalism within the force.

According to the command, the money reportedly collected from the victim has been refunded while the investigation continues. The police further assured the public that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force, reiterating its commitment to accountability and responsible policing in the state.
