Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied reports claiming he stated that the South should produce Nigeria’s president in 2027. El-Rufai described the reports as “fake” and “misleading”, emphasizing that he never made such comments in any speech, interview, or social media post.
He clarified that he only expresses his views through his verified social media platforms and during interviews with reputable media organizations. El-Rufai also warned against attributing opinion articles written by others to him, simply because he shared them online.
The former governor urged media professionals and the public to verify information before publishing or sharing, stressing that society suffers when media leaders and influencers fail in this responsibility.
El-Rufai’s denial comes after a viral report alleged that he stated it was the South’s turn to produce the next president, and that he was backing Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
