The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Olukayode Egbetokun, has assured that the Nigeria Police Force operates a merit-based system that rewards diligence, professionalism, and proven capacity. He emphasized that the force has no promotion scandal, but rather a system that prioritizes fairness and merit. According to him, promotions in the force are guided solely by competence, performance, and discipline.
Egbetokun made this known during the decoration ceremony of newly promoted police officers in Abuja. He congratulated the officers, urging them to uphold the highest ethical standards and to serve with wisdom, strength, and courage. The IG emphasized that advancement in rank brings with it a new horizon of duty, and that the Nigerian people expect a force that is smarter, more responsive, and deeply connected to the communities.
The IG charged the senior officers to fully embrace the philosophy of community policing and intelligence-led policing, harness technology, empower their personnel, and craft innovations that will keep the institution ahead of criminal enterprises. A total of 923 officers were promoted in the current batch of promotions, with 16 senior officers decorated by the IG at the event.
