Hajiya Asiya El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed deep concern over what she described as the emotional and psychological toll of her husband’s detention on their family. Speaking in a video shared by SYMFONI TV, she alleged that the family has been left living in fear, saying reports circulating on social media have heightened their anxiety. While she declined to speculate on claims about her husband’s safety, she said the uncertainty surrounding his condition has been distressing.
Asiya further alleged that her husband has been isolated from his family, personal doctors, and adequate medical care, warning that prolonged isolation can have serious psychological and health consequences. She also claimed that family members have been informed they are being monitored, alleging that their phone conversations appear to be recorded and that she has been followed. According to her, these experiences have created an atmosphere of fear and emotional strain within the family.
She argued that the alleged treatment is intended to weaken her husband by putting pressure on those closest to him. “We feel humiliated and constantly afraid,” she said, adding, “If they humiliate, dehumanize and put us in constant fear, they feel that affects Mallam.” Asiya questioned why any family should be subjected to such an experience and expressed hope that no harm would come to her husband.
