JUST IN: NDC Condemns Court De-recognition, preaches Calmness
Share this:

Spokesman of the opposition African Democratic Alliance, Bolaji Abdullahi, has described the recent court decision setting aside an earlier judgment recognising the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as part of what he termed a coordinated effort to weaken opposition politics in the country.

Abdullahi made the remark while reacting to the ruling of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which nullified its previous judgment that had compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.

In a statement released on Friday, Abdullahi argued that the development sends a troubling signal to opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, recent moves affecting opposition parties are unprecedented and raise concerns about the health of Nigeria’s democracy.

The opposition spokesman stressed the need for political parties outside the ruling camp to work together in order to protect democratic ideals and citizens’ rights.

The comments come amid growing debates over the implications of the Lokoja court ruling, with the NDC already announcing plans to challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal while insisting that it remains a registered political party pending the outcome of the appeal.
