According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, June 27, 2026, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Seriake Dickson has rejected a Federal High Court ruling that set aside the party’s earlier registration order, describing the decision as legally flawed and pledging to challenge it at the Court of Appeal.
The judgment, delivered on Friday by Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, vacated the court’s previous order that had directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
The court held that the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which claims ownership of the logo adopted by the NDC, was not joined in the original suit despite its interest in the matter.
Reacting to the decision, Dickson maintained that the ruling lacked legal merit and posed a threat to Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system.
Dickson disclosed that the party had assembled a team of lawyers to challenge the judgment immediately, urging members, supporters and candidates to remain calm and continue their political activities while the legal process unfolds.
He also questioned the legal standing of the Peace Movement Party, arguing that it is neither a registered political party nor one of the associations that applied to INEC for registration in 2025. According to him, the association had no legal interest in the original case.
Dickson further alleged that individuals unsettled by the rapid growth of the NDC were behind the legal action.
He expressed confidence that the party would overturn what he described as a judicial error and continue its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
