Lazeera news reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is urging citizens to take precautions against Lassa Fever, which has claimed 80 lives and recorded a fatality rate of 19.4% as of recent reports. The NCDC advises citizens to avoid contact with rodents, store food properly, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms like fever, headache, or sore throat appear.

The NCDC is working with international partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), to strengthen diagnosis, treatment, and outbreak response. The public is advised to maintain good hygiene, eliminate rodent hiding places, and wash hands frequently with soap and water to prevent the spread of the disease.

In a related development, citizens are encouraged to report suspected cases to the NCDC toll-free line: 0800 9700 0010 or 0800 9700 0020. The NCDC reassures the public that efforts are underway to contain the outbreak and urges cooperation in preventing the spread of Lassa Fever.
