Ekiti Govt Takes Action Amid Community Unrest

The Ekiti State Government has placed the Elepe of Epe-Ekiti, Oba Williams Adesoye, on probation and a formal watch list following allegations of authoritarian behaviour and community unrest. The move follows months of tension between the monarch and his subjects, with residents demanding his removal. Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye disclosed the decision at a stakeholders meeting, urging calm and restraint.

The meeting, held at the palace of Ajero of Ijero-Ekiti, Oba Joseph Adewole, aimed to address the dispute. Resolutions include restraining Oba Adesoye from the palace and requiring him to sign an undertaking of good conduct. Adewole warned that the government and community would be monitoring the monarch’s actions, hoping he would change his ways.

The community has welcomed the government’s intervention, with Epe Progressive Union chairman Adebowale Alabi praising efforts to regulate Adesoye’s behaviour. Alabi criticized the monarch’s “disrespectful and authoritarian actions
