Uproar in Uganda as Officials Compare President Museveni to Divine Figures
Share this:

Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja sparked widespread controversy after describing President Yoweri Museveni as “coming right after God,” crediting him for her political rise. Her remarks were made during an event in Kakumiro district, where she pledged loyalty to him and the Ugandan people.

These statements followed similar comments by Parliament Speaker Anita Among, who likened Museveni to “God the Father” and his son General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to “the Son,” drawing criticism from religious leaders and citizens.

While the ruling National Resistance Movement party defended the remarks as metaphorical expressions of gratitude, observers argue they reflect an attempt to reinforce unchallengeable legitimacy amid recurring accusations of entrenched one-man rule in Uganda.

Public opinion remains divided, with some condemning the statements as a violation of secular principles while others dismiss them as mere emotional rhetoric. Activists are calling for moderation in public discourse to preserve institutional balance.
