A former member of the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to reopen and prosecute allegations of financial crimes involving Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Agbonayinma made the demand through his lawyer, Hannibal Uwaifo of Sagitarian Law Firm, giving the anti-graft agency 14 days to act on the request. The former lawmaker is seeking renewed attention to allegations relating to Atiku’s activities while he served as Vice-President of Nigeria.
The demand now puts the EFCC under pressure to respond to the request and determine whether the allegations warrant further investigation and possible prosecution. Any action by the commission could reignite public debate over the long-running financial-crime allegations involving the ADC presidential candidate.
