Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has described former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as his friend and colleague, acknowledging the shared experience of serving as governors. Umahi noted that while Obi may be senior in terms of when he served, the office of governor remains a unifying experience.
Speaking in a video shared by Vanguard on Monday, August 17, 2026, Umahi urged people of the Southeast to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He expressed confidence that the region would back the President, while noting that Southeast votes alone would not be enough to make Peter Obi President of Nigeria.
His remarks have continued to attract attention, particularly his description of Obi as both a friend and colleague. “He might be a senior one, but governor is governor,” Umahi said, highlighting the shared political journey between the two former governors.
