Share this:

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Southwest Zone D, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the continued withholding of statutory allocations meant for the 30 local government areas of Osun State.

According to the report by Nigerian Tribune, on August 17, 2026, In an open letter signed by the zone’s coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, the student body said more than N200 billion had reportedly accumulated in withheld allocations by mid-2026.

NANS warned that the financial situation was affecting the ability of local councils to provide essential services, including roads, healthcare, sanitation, water and security.

The association noted that local governments are particularly important to students because many tertiary institutions and their host communities depend on council infrastructure and services.

With the August 15 governorship election concluded, NANS urged the Federal Government to put political considerations aside and address the matter.

It called on Tinubu to direct relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and RMAFC, to resolve any administrative or legal obstacles preventing the release of the funds.

NANS also urged Osun’s local government administrators to ensure transparency and visible development if the allocations are released.
