Share this:

The Anambra State Government has announced that it has placed a ban on “flamboyant, glamorous and unnecessary graduation ceremonies”. According to the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the move aims to save parents from extortions that occur in schools under the guise of graduation parties.

Professor Chuma-Udeh made the announcement at the opening ceremony of a three-day conference for proprietors of private schools in Awka, which covered Awka, Aguata, and Nnewi Zones. She stated that the conference was designed to update school managers on new teaching methods, school administration, and curriculum updates.

The Commissioner emphasized that education and teaching are vocations that prioritize non-material aspects, and she urged proprietors to avoid exposing children to unnecessary materialistic tendencies and competitions. She also encouraged school owners to invest in regular training and re-training for their teachers and staff.

Furthermore, Professor Chuma-Udeh highlighted the importance of equitable education for every child, noting that the Ministry of Education is responsible for ensuring that proprietors meet basic standards through necessary education, laws, curriculum, and taxonomies.
