ADC chieftain and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo, has refused to commend the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the recent Osun State governorship election, despite the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner. Speaking on Channels Television, Okonkwo instead congratulated the people of Osun for standing firm and defending their votes.
Okonkwo raised concerns over the suspension of result uploads on the IReV portal, questioning why the process was reportedly interrupted around 8pm and only resumed much later. He also alleged that the election period was marred by violence, intimidation and other irregularities, arguing that INEC should provide clear explanations on the issues surrounding the poll.
According to Okonkwo, opposition parties must not lower their guard because of the outcome in Osun. He recalled that INEC conducted what he described as a good election in Osun in 2022, but alleged that the 2023 general election exposed serious weaknesses. He therefore described the 2025 Osun election as worse than the 2022 poll and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant in future elections.
