The National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Osa Director, has described former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as a capitalist whose economic philosophy places the welfare of people above the pursuit of profit.
Speaking during an interview on Symfoni TV on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, he said Obi believes the true purpose of economic growth is to improve the lives of ordinary citizens, not merely to increase wealth or impressive financial statistics.
According to Osa Director, Peter Obi’s approach to capitalism encourages enterprise, investment and economic expansion, while ensuring that the benefits of growth reach the people. He explained that Obi measures progress by the opportunities created for citizens through quality education, accessible healthcare, job creation, improved public services and responsible management of public resources.
He maintained that lasting development can only be achieved when economic policies are driven by both financial discipline and compassion. In his words, “Peter Obi is a capitalist who prefers the human race to the profit race,” emphasizing that a thriving economy should ultimately be reflected in better living standards, greater opportunities and a more prosperous society for all.
