Phrank Shaibu, Special Adviser on Public Communication to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. He made the remarks in a video shared on the official X account of Nigerian interviewer Seun Okinbaloye on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Shaibu questioned the President’s religious sincerity, arguing that Tinubu’s claim to being a Muslim should be reflected in how he treats others, including El-Rufai, whom he described as a fellow Muslim. His comments followed Tinubu’s visit to Saudi Arabia, where he reportedly prayed for Nigeria.
According to Shaibu, Nigerians should not be expected to support Tinubu for a second term simply because he travelled to Saudi Arabia to pray. He maintained that religious activities should not replace accountability, adding that the continued detention of El-Rufai over what he described as a minor political disagreement raises questions about the President’s actions.
