Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised the alarm over what he described as an open threat to democracy by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, following his comment suggesting that the August 15 election would be “snatched.” Adeleke warned that Osun people will not stand by and watch anyone undermine their constitutional right to freely choose their leaders.

The Governor maintained that his endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be interpreted as weakness, but as a reflection of his confidence in his political strength and ability to mobilise support for the President in Osun. He further accused Oyetola and the Osun APC of actions capable of undermining public confidence in the electoral process, urging national and international democracy stakeholders to pay close attention to developments in the state.

Adeleke, however, expressed confidence in his chances at the polls, saying the people of Osun remain firmly behind his administration. He vowed that his government would not attempt to “snatch” the people’s mandate, but would rely on their votes, insisting that the people, not political power brokers, must determine the outcome of the August 15 election.
