Professor Pat Utomi has shared a personal experience that, in his view, speaks volumes about Peter Obi’s leadership style. Speaking on Atlanta Discuss Channel, Utomi recalled seeing Obi negotiate for a discount at a hotel in Abuja while serving as Governor of Anambra State. He said the moment reflected Obi’s long-standing reputation for being careful with public funds and avoiding unnecessary spending.
Utomi noted that, at a time when many public officials were known for extravagant lifestyles funded by taxpayers, Obi stood out for his modest approach. According to him, while some governors preferred luxury and lavish accommodation, Obi was focused on cutting costs wherever possible. For Utomi, that simple act was a reflection of the discipline and accountability expected from those entrusted with public office.
He added that Nigeria needs more leaders who see public resources as a sacred trust rather than an opportunity for personal comfort. Utomi believes the country’s progress depends not only on good policies but also on leaders who are prudent, transparent, and committed to putting the interests of the people above personal luxury.
