Dele Momodu Presents Tinubu as Forcing Obi Kwankwaso Ticket
Share this:

According to a report by The Punch, Dele Momodu, a prominent chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and veteran journalist, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s governance style is the primary factor driving opposition leaders Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a Wednesday interview on Channels Television, the Ovation International publisher argued that the recent merger of political forces is a direct reaction to external pressure rather than a natural ideological bond.

According to Momodu, Tinubu effectively “forced” these figures into a corner, leaving them with little choice but to move in the same direction.

The veteran journalist’s comments come on the heels of the high-profile defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

While many see this as a powerful coalition, Momodu expressed skepticism about automatic voter loyalty. He pointed out that the political landscape has shifted significantly since 2023.

“What is the guarantee that Obi and Kwankwaso will retain everyone who voted for them last time?” Momodu questioned. He further suggested that in a truly free and fair contest, the incumbent President might struggle to secure even 3 million votes, down from the 8.7 million recorded in the previous cycle.

Using the failed senatorial bids of certain “G5” governors as an example, Momodu warned that Nigerians are becoming more unpredictable.

He maintained that the ADC remains a stable platform and refused to give in to “political blackmail” suggesting that only one specific individual can secure a victory against the ruling party.

He concluded by advising opposition actors to remain calm and focused, rather than acting out of desperation.
