Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing growing instability and internal challenges within the party. In a statement, Obi clarified that his decision was not driven by personal grievances against the party’s leadership, noting that he still holds deep respect for key figures, including the National Chairman and other senior stakeholders.

Obi, however, expressed concern over what he described as a troubling pattern of interference and crisis within political parties, similar to what he experienced in the Labour Party. He pointed to increasing court cases, internal disputes, suspicion, and division within the ADC, warning that such developments undermine the party’s ability to focus on pressing national issues and meaningful governance.

He further stressed that Nigerian politics must shift away from control, exclusion, and internal power struggles toward service, unity, and nation-building. Obi reaffirmed his commitment to contributing positively to Nigeria’s progress, while urging political actors to prioritize stability and the collective good over personal or factional interests.
