Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State and ADC Chieftain has disclosed the reasons why he made it known that Elder stateman and former vice president, Atiku Abubakar must consider his age before contesting the presidential elections in 2027.
According to his statements which were shared by VANGUARD, he pointed out that the position requires capacity.
The news regarding the emergence of a 49-year-old young man as the president elect in Benin Republic generated mixed reactions after the reports went viral across various social media platforms.
Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State and transportation minister in a recent public statement, while making reference to the new shift in Benin Republic, pointed out that Nigeria should follow a similar path.
According to his statements which were made available to the general public by VANGUARD on Friday April 17th, 2026 he also disclosed why ADC Chieftain and Elderstateman, Atiku Abubakar must step aside for a younger candidate.
In his arguments, he pointed out that the position of president required capacity and flexibility, arguing that Atiku Abubakar, who was already over seventy years old do not fit the description.
He further maintained that a president must be ready to be on the road regularly to witness first hand what was happening in the country, hence, he (Atiku Abubakar) must consider his age before contesting in 2027.
“This position requires the capacity to put yourself on the roads and see what is happening. Now, a 49-year-old has just been voted in as president in Benin Republic.” He said.
