“If You Have Money, Pay Tax; If You Don’t, We’ll Give You Work”~Otti
Share this:

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to a fair and inclusive tax system, assuring residents that taxation under his government will be tied to economic empowerment and job creation.

Speaking to Abians, Governor Otti emphasized that the state will not impose arbitrary taxes on citizens without providing opportunities for them to earn a living.

“If you have money, pay tax. If you don’t, we’ll give you work so you can earn and pay tax,” the governor said.

He explained that the philosophy behind the policy is to stimulate productivity, expand the tax base organically, and reduce the burden on low-income earners. According to him, sustainable revenue generation must be built on employment, enterprise, and improved living standards rather than coercive taxation.

Governor Otti noted that his administration is focused on creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, investing in infrastructure, and opening up job opportunities that will empower citizens to contribute meaningfully to the state’s economy.

He added that when people are gainfully employed and businesses are supported to grow, voluntary tax compliance naturally increases, strengthening government capacity to deliver public services.

The governor’s remarks come amid ongoing reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in governance, improving internally generated revenue, and ensuring that tax proceeds are transparently used for the development of Abia State.
