DSS Arraigns Suspected Terrorist, Abdulazeez Obadaki
Share this:

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned Abdulazeez Obadaki, also known as “Bomboy”, a suspected member of the Ansaru terrorist group, for allegedly masterminding the July 2022 attack on Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, which led to his escape and that of other detainees.

Obadaki, 42, was arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count charge bordering on terrorism offences, including joining a terrorist group, failing to disclose information about a terrorist, and rendering support to a terrorist group.

He pleaded guilty to one count of escaping from lawful custody but pleaded not guilty to the other five counts. The court adjourned the matter until January 26, 2026, and ordered that Obadaki be remanded in DSS custody.

The prosecution alleges that Obadaki joined the Ansaru terrorist group through “one Abu Muhsab” and participated in attacks on four commercial banks in Edo, killing several persons and carting away huge sums of cash. He was arrested by security forces and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre but escaped during the July 2022 jailbreak.
