Tinubu Reviews Pardon List After Public Outcry
Share this:

President Bola Tinubu is willing to acknowledge mistakes and make corrections when necessary, according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Onanuga made this remark while reacting to the President’s decision to review the recent list of individuals granted presidential pardon, following widespread criticism and public concern.

Addressing specific cases, Onanuga explained that Maryam Sanda, whose death sentence for culpable homicide was reduced to 12 years’ imprisonment, was considered on humanitarian grounds.

He said: “Maryam Sanda’s case is complicated because she has children, and the father is no more. It was a crime of passion, not premeditated. Her late husband’s father even pleaded for forgiveness.”

Onanuga stressed that the reliefs granted were acts of clemency, not full pardons, adding that the decisions were guided by rehabilitation, remorse, and compassion.
